Exceptional Snowboarding Conditions All over the French Alps

There has been around 2 meters snowfall in the week. The snowfall has been so prolonged that ski lifts have been closed, the railroad train has been stopping at Chamonix train station and not going onwards to Argentiere. Some roads were closed past our Chamonix chalet and weather warnings issued.

Compare this to 2 winter seasons ago, when there was the incredibly hot January weather, grass appearing on the mountainsides, and admonitions that global warming could mean the end of skiing in the Alps. Highlighting this the study from winter 2006 predicted that climate change would make snowboarding far too expensive for many snowboarders, with a 3rd of resorts going bust and the receding of alpine glaciers. Glaciologists assert that it is inconceivable to attribute these seasonal deviations in the weather patterns to the off shoots of climate change.

So we might be experiencing the biggest downturn in 25 years, and the pound has headed to more levels versus the euro, but the snow is grand, and the latest bookings highlight that snowboarders are enthusiastic to revel in the exceptional snow. Its probably the greatest in six winters, and many people are saying its the nicest ski snowboarding snow in at least 10 yrs.

Even so remember that big dumps like these mean big risks of avalanche.
